Akash is a mainly rocky, Venus-like exoplanet orbiting around the ultra-cold dwarf star TRAPPIST-1 that is governed by the Qafi Federation. Cooler than Venus or its neighbor Jahannama, Akash has as a result been seized upon by enterprising Qafis as the Trappist System's next great frontier. These trailblazing Akashians have struggled to put down roots on the planet, with largescale settlement not being an option yet, but they remain persistent in their efforts, even as support from Qaf has been steadily decreasing.

History[edit | edit source]

Geography[edit | edit source]

Habitability[edit | edit source]

Akash is popularly considered as TRAPPIST-1's cooler "Venus Twin" with a surface gravity of of 0.966 g and equilibrium temperature of 61.7 °C. Its significant greenhouse effect and synchronous orbit results in a surface temperature that, while on average hotter than its equilibrium, varies widely between the planet's two hemispheres. Presently all permanent habitation structures are erected on the planet's colder dark side.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Settled later than the other planets of the Trappist System after initial colonisation, Akash was settled first by UGSA and Qafi scientists to determine its habitability and value. After that, only a small number of Qafis, mostly from As-Saqar, were allowed to settle on Askash, mostly administration staff to assist the scientists. Akash would develop a quite secular culture over time in contrast to Qaf's sectarianism. Although many Akashians are religious like their Qafi cousins, they are often more ‘business first’ and do not let their religion influence their actions as much. Nevertheless, Akashians still see themselves as Qafi and have no aspirations of independence, with the majority of Akashians supporting the current Social Freedom government though many favor the Federation Party. Akash’s more accepting culture and its location has led to them developing closer ties to Cariocecus, with a sizable Martian minority on Akash. There are also a large number of recent Qafi internal migrants on Akash who are far more conservative than the average Akashian. Small numbers of Tranquilans and Earthers are also present.

As much of the population is located in and around the capital city Iram, Akash is also much more urban than Qaf. Iram, often compared to the arcologies on Earth, has a distinctly cosmopolitan climate that brings together influences from all over the Trappist System and beyond. Above Akash, a large proportion of the population also reside in space stations that serve as a less hostile environment than the surface. However, Akash’s gravity makes it very advantageous for settlement, and many Akashians feel Qaf has too little to offer versus making Akash more livable.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. De-facto. A tricolour of black, white and green symbolising Muhammad's two standards and green as a symbol of Islam.
  2. Depicting a book symbolic of knowledge and the Akashic records, and a saffron flame symbolic of truth and the searing heat of the planet's surface.
