Born in 3959/10/15, Rainbow Prudence Vogel is a mining technician from the New Manhattan arcology and an engineer graduate of the Washington University of New Manhattan. He had a long career first in the New Manhattan Army and later in the Axil Industries, finally participating in the Axil Industries Interstellar Mining Initiative targeting Leonis System.

History[edit | edit source]

Rainbow Prudence Vogel was born in 15th of October 3959 in the 52nd Avenue Hospital of New Manhattan. His parents had moved into the arcology after Hanna had experienced complications with her pregnancy and Rainbow was born prematurely. Patrick Vogel was a military scientist and was able to cover the hospital expenses without problems. The new family moved back into the Urban Overgrounds 7 domed city just north of the New Manhattan arcology.

Urban Overgrounds 7 (UO7) was in 3960s a rather small military compound of two to three hundred military personnel and another hundred scientists researching mainly soil and air toxicity. UO7 had living quarters for most of the personnel working in the compound because travelling between the arcology and the compound was seen as inefficient and expensive. Military grade air and water filters kept the baby Rainbow safe and sound, unlike the systems that maintained the civilian over- and underground dome cities.

Rainbow Vogel was taught by her mother and they were very close. In 3964 Hanna Vogel moved into the New Manhattan arcology so Rainbow could participate in the basic education provided by the arcology. Patrick Vogel's prestigious post in the military allowed his family to live in the upper districts of New Manhattan. In 3973 Patrick Vogel died during a field survey in the Maine Wastes and the family left behind received a small consolidation because of their loss. Hanna Vogel could not afford to live in the upper levels and the family of two moved into lower city. The family was able to keep up their healthy ways of living and Hanna made sure that Patrick's savings were kept safe for a bad day.

In 3974, a little over a year after Patrick's death, Hanna found a new love and moved together with Ace Hudson. Rainbow was forced to sacrifice some of his savings when his mother came pregnant for Ace and she bore twins, Mary and Jake Hudson, in 15th of May 3975. Ace's incomes could not support the family, but he was a fair man and was not ready to throw Rainbow out. Rainbow was however forced to drop his school and start working with his stepfather in the sewage division of Upper New Manhattan.

When Rainbow turned sixteen, his mother arranged him a trainee position within the military compound where Patrick had worked and so Rainbow moved back into the Urban Overgrounds 7. In the UO7 Rainbow began his work as a research assistant and took part in numerous field studies as the brawns of the operations getting himself very familiar with different kinds of exoskeletons, forklifts and vehicles used in hostile environments outside of the domes. The UO7 officer in charge, Senne Smith, arranged Rainbow into the Washington University of New Manhattan in 3980 in an exchange of a ten years contract with the military. Rainbow crash-coursed himself through the university in two and a half years after what he joined the Northern Research Division of the New Manhattan Army Auxiliary Corps in early 3983.

Ten years long contract with the New Manhattan Army ended in 3993 after what Rainbow was offered an administrative position within the Auxiliary Corps due his long service history and recommendations. However, the Axil Industries - that had just turned 110 years and also become the second largest private conglomerate in the governed space - offered Rainbow a senior position in its Mercury Exploitation Division. Rainbow however did turn the offer down as he was worried about his mother and the wellbeing of her family and so he sought out a new, six years, contract with the New Manhattan Army. Rainbow bought an estate in the upper New Manhattan so his mother and her family could live in the better environment as there had been rumours about leaking in the lower levels of the arcology.

In 3996, before the contract with the New Manhattan Army was finished, Rainbow was transferred into Axil Industries factory site to secure the manufacturing of Model 39X-HV carbine - which was the primary weapon of the infantry of the New Manhattan Army. The 3996 riots, also known as The '96 Riots, against the Axil Industries were brought up by ideologists that opposed the corporatocratic rule of the arcology as they saw the traditional autocratic one-party system freer and more transparent. Riots turned into violent clashes a couple of times before the president reorganised his cabinet, kicking the major lobber and Axil Industries promo-face Dick Blue out of his office. Rainbow Vogel was promoted because of his resilience and resolute against the rioters and he was offered a position in the Axil Industries. New Manhattan Army relocated Rainbow permanently into "Orange Squadron" and he participated in succumbing four other riots before in 3999 the Axil Industries offered him once again a position in the Mercury Exploitation Division.

Rainbow was by no means a violent person and so he was more than willing to participate the MEx Division of the Axil Industries. In the late 3999 he travelled on Mercury to mine Helium-3 - what is used to power fusion reactors of all sizes. Rainbow resided in the Axil MEx base Bechet in the planet's northern hemisphere and oversaw mining and auxiliary equipment. Heavy work and tough environment took their toll on Rainbow but he continued to work on the site until early 4001 when he was transferred into Axil Industries Lunar Logistics Center. From there he was able to visit his mother and her family. On Lunar Logistics Center he worked as one of the senior members of the on-site logistic technicians.

Hanna Vogel died in 4004 after she was contaminated with an antibiotics-resistant bacterium from an unknown source. Rainbow visited his stepfather Ace Hudson and his stepsiblings Mary and Jake Hudson in New Manhattan and arranged his mother's belongings in order after what he returned on Luna. He allowed his stepfather to continue to live in his apartment for a formal rent.

In late 4004 Rainbow was introduced into the Axil Industries Interstellar Mining Initiative which targeted the Leonis system and its evaluation and possible colonisation. Hesitantly he agreed to participate the Initiative even if he was not a fan of space travelling.
