Ganymede is a the largest moon of Jupiter, largest and most massive moon of the Solar System, and state of the Jovian Interstellar Republic.
Ganymede's size, natural magnetic field and abundant subterranean saltwater sea - kept in a liquid state from a combination of tidal flexing and geothermal energy - are the key factors that have allowed the moon to become the Jovian agricultural powerhouse, with the collective output of its greenhouses so exceeding the demands of the Jovian population that much of it is sold as exports to the inhabitants of the belt and outer planets.
The moon also boasts the second-largest population of the Republic after Europa.
