Ganymede is a the largest moon of Jupiter, largest and most massive moon of the Solar System, and state of the Jovian Interstellar Republic.

Ganymede is bathed in on average 0.05–0.08 sv of radiation per day, but otherwise its size, natural magnetic field and abundant subterranean saltwater sea - kept in a liquid state from a combination of tidal flexing and geothermal energy - have allowed it to become a veritable breadbasket of staple crops automatically grown and harvested at a truly tremendous scale, with the collective output of its greenhouses so exceeding the demands of the Jovian population that much of it is sold as exports to the inhabitants of the belt and outer planets.

The moon boasts the second-largest population of the Republic after Europa, and is home to a formidable strata of wealthy immortal/clone-dynasty agricultural families.
