Proxima Centauri b (Martian English: Prakzimsentarii-b), colloquially known as Proxie B, is a stateless planet that is managed by Proxian mining conglomerates. Its largest demographic is fly-in fly-out miners from the Solar System. Proxima Centauri b was the first exoplanet in human history to be scouted by interstellar probes in the early 3rd millennium, with surface scans confirming the then long-held suspicions of the planet being unsuitable for life. Further investigations in the following millennia revealed that the planet was rich in valuable resources, including sulfur, iron and copper, thus - coupled with its closeness to Earth - giving enough incentive for its eventual colonisation by mining conglomerates.
While Proxima Centauri is too dim to be seen from the Solar System with the naked eye with an apparent magnitude of 11.13, its two sisters that make up the rest of the Alpha Centauri trinary star system are the third brightest in the night sky.

Though Proxima Centauri b orbits its parent star's habitable zone, it is subject year-round to solar wind pressures of more than 2,000 times those experienced on Earth, and thus has no atmosphere. Humans on the surface are required to wear appropriate Interface Suits to survive the high radiation levels, which includes levels of X-Ray radiation over 400 times those received on Earth. Due to its closeness to its star, Proxima Centauri b is also tidally locked.
Its surface gravity is 1.3 g.
