An Interface Suit (IF) is the collective term for a series of multi-purpose garments worn to protect against the effects of inhospitable environments. Other colloquial terms for the garments include vacc suits or space-skins.

History[edit | edit source]

Interface Suits have an origin in the various protective garments invented by the pre and post-singularity humanity, such as hazmat suits, spacesuits, g-suits, and et cetera. With the coming of the Solar Age (post year 2201), streamlined all-purpose protective suits saw commercial development, giving birth to the first generation IF's.

Types[edit | edit source]

Various types of Interface Suits have been developed over the centuries, with several distinct categories emerging and entering common language.

  • Light Interface Suit (LIF) - Originator of the term "Interface Suit" before the phrase broadened to include other suit types, causing it to later don the retronyms "Light" or "Base Interface Suit". Used as the foundation of all other IF types. Protects against low levels of harmful radiation - which largely includes sunburn -, against most harmful gases and liquids, and has g-suit capabilities allowing its user to withstand short term exposure to high gravity/high acceleration of up to 4-5g. Is worn as common apparel beneath uniforms and civvies.
  • Medium Interface Suit (MIF) - Equivalent to the spacesuits used during the 20th and 21st centuries, however is much slimmer and significantly more advanced. Protects against medium levels of solar radiation, including those experienced on The Moon or in low orbit, and against extremely low and high temperatures in the range of negative to positive 150 degrees Celsius. Also provides additional protection from high and low-pressure atmospheres, including vacuum environments.
  • Heavy Interface Suit (HIF) - Heavier form of the MIF built for surviving extremely dangerous Space environments, such as the surface of Proxima Centauri b. Offers high protection against solar radiation, as well as some protection against shock and projectiles, which typically includes collisions with space junk. Also monitors its user's physical condition, administering minor aid to fractures, internal bleeding, poisoning, and so fourth.
  • Combat Interface Suit (CIF) - An interface suit based on the HIF and modified for use in combat by police and military forces. Offers significant protection from most anti-personnel weapons and shrapnel, and is usually built to supplement weapons systems, including magazines for projectile-based weapons, fuel tanks and connectors for flamethrower weaponry, and etc. Additional systems typically used in conjunction with these interface suits include:

Accessories typically used in conjunction with all Interface Suits include:

  • Exoskeleton (EX) - for high-gravity environments.
  • Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) - connects with IF's to fully seal its wearer from outside environments. Comes in various types, offering the same protections as the IF they're paired with, as well as providing oxygen and/or filtering oxygenated atmospheres to be safely breathable.
