The Interstellar Governed Space Authority, commonly abbreviated to IGSA, (Martian English: Inrestelaa Gabrenspaat Otortii) is an intergovernmental organisation formed to promote interstellar co-operation and to maintain peaceful diplomacy and order.

The organisation has nine recognised members: the Commonwealth of Earth, the Jovian Republic, the Martian Federation, the Free State of Neptune, the Republic of Nova, the Union of Saturn, the State of Tranquility, the Qafi Federation, and the Zhu Que Directorate.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The IGSA system is based on three principal organs: the General Assembly, the Security Council, and the IGSA Secretariat. The privatization of the Interstellar Police Force in 3730 saw the dissolution of the Interstellar Court of Justice.

The key working language groups used by the IGSA are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish, with the member states' official varieties of each group being recognised. Though no language is given official precedence over any other, the most commonly used language group for all documents and and communication is English.

Membership[edit | edit source]

Throughout human history celestial bodies have been given various names and political designations, both by the celestial bodies' owners themselves and IGSA. Although multiple designations have been used by various celestial powers and organisations, IGSA categorises all celestial territories in the following groupings: Celestial State; Celestial Department; Interstellar Zone; and Ungoverned Zone. Each designation reflecting their political status both to IGSA and their members.

Celestial Bodies[edit | edit source]

  • Celestial State - the general term for all highly developed, self-governing nation states that have full control of the celestial body upon which they reside. Additionally, if they are capable of interstellar force projection and travel, they may be known as an Interstellar State. A common variant term is Celestial Federation, used for celestial bodies with multiple state governments.
  • Celestial Department - for the celestial bodies claimed and governed by Celestial States outside of the celestial body they are based on. Departments offer greater freedoms for free trade operations, however they are still classified as within national boundaries of the Celestial State that administers them, and thus vessels and personnel belonging to foreign states cannot enter without authorization. Long-term asteroids trapped in an orbit of a Celestial State are also classified under this designation, including the component rocks and dust of a gas giant's rings.
  • Interstellar Zone - celestial bodies governed by no exclusive Celestial State, but rather is directly administered by the IGSA, and is instead recognized as being common property of the collective humanity. Armed conflict in Interstellar Zones is considered illegal by IGSA without formal declarations of war, however most state-run and free trade operations can be conducted with little to no regulation.
  • Ungoverned Zone - for far-flung celestial bodies governed neither by Celestial States nor the IGSA. Though effectively similar to the status of Interstellar Zone in legal terms, many ungoverned zones are exploited by states and interstellar companies alike without IGSA approval. Marks the boundary between known space (all space explored by mankind) and the further untouched cosmos.

Standard colours[edit | edit source]

Official IGSA-sanctioned colours for IGSA ships, planetary state ships, and the de-facto colours used by the fleets of Barnard's Star b, the Godly Republic of Eden, Proxima Centauri b and the 82 G. Eridani colony

Categories[edit | edit source]

Starship and space stations categories are all named after extinct and extinct-in-the-wild Earth sea life that existed during before the Interstellar Age.

Civilian[edit | edit source]

  • Freighter
    • Blue Whale class freighter- class for interstellar freighters
    • Humpback Whale class freighter - class for intra-system freighters
    • Orca class tugboat - for manned tugboats that assist freighters in orbital spaceports
  • Leisure
    • Beluga class yacht - official IGSA class designation for all privately commissioned and owned yachts.
    • Marlin class Kimber racer - official IGSA class designation for all interstellar racing ships, the hull and loadout varies depending on manufacturer.
    • Barracuda class VASIMR racer - official IGSA class designation for all system racing ships, the hull and loadout varies depending on manufacturer.

    • Bivalve class orbital platform - small orbital stations, typically owned privately. Includes asteroid miner caches, corporate dead drops, and small ship waystations
    • Polyp class orbital platform - small orbital stations with no permanent inhabitants. Conventional communication satellites and orbital solar panel arrays are included in this classification
    • Seahorse class class orbital platform - small disc-shaped orbital stations that spin to simulate gravity by way of the centrifugal force.
    • Starfish class orbital city - large inhabited disc-shaped space stations that spin to simulate gravity.
  • Transport
    • Whale Shark class dual freighter-transport - class for interstellar barges that ferry both cargo and human passengers. Most common type of interstellar ship.
    • Sunfish class transport - for interstellar transports that hold over 1000 passengers
    • Manta class transport - for transports that hold over 500 people
